Job Posting: Research Assistant, The Columbia Basin Rural Development Institute

Applications are invited for the position of Research Assistant, for the Columbia Basin Rural Development Institute. The position will assist in undertaking applied research with and for and thus report to the BC Regional Innovation Chair in Rural Economic Development and will be a critical member of the Columbia Basin Rural Development Institute (RDI) research team. This is a full time position to March 31, 2013 with the potential for extension pending funding.

 
The Columbia Basin Rural Development Institute (RDI) at Selkirk College is a regional centre of excellence in applied research and rural innovation located in the Columbia Basin Boundary region of British Columbia focused on strengthening rural communities through the provision of relevant and timely information. The RDI is supported through a multi-year partnership between Columbia Basin Trust and Selkirk College. The research priorities of the RDI include: monitoring & reporting on economic, social, cultural and environmental sustainability trends in the region through the State of the Basin Initiative; rural revitalization research and support to economic development practitioners, including research and development support for the Regional Business Retention and Expansion Pilot Project; and the promotion of and support for rural innovation and knowledge transfer including case study research on rural innovators.
 
Successful candidates should have a minimum masters or doctoral degree in a related discipline. Preference will be giving to candidates with the following research skills and related experience: academic literature reviews; case study research; analyzing secondary data available through Census Canada, CANSIM, BC Stats and similar sources; survey development, analysis and report writing; descriptive statistical analysis; qualitative analysis using grounded theory; and inferential statistical analysis using SPSS software.
 
This is a short term up to 100% appointment commencing November 9, 2012 and planned to March 31, 2013 (may be extended based on funding). Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
