2011 KAST Scholarships

From video game design and digital music, to bio-engineering, business and dentistry; Kootenay and Boundary communities can expect some amazing future achievements from our 2011 grads.

The Kootenay Association for Science & Technology (KAST) is very proud of our region’s talented tech and science students.

Please join us in congratulating the winners of our 2011 $250 scholarships, available to graduating students in School Districts 8, 10, 20 and 51 who demonstrate a passion for science and/or technology through a combination of academic achievement and/or participation and leadership.

BCIC Young Innovator Scholarship (YIS)

BCIC offers support to innovative and entrepreneurial Grade 12 students to enter full-time science, technology and business programs in the province's post-secondary institutions. The intent of the program is to encourage students to continue their education in the province and pursue careers in British Columbia's advanced technology industries. Through partnership with the Southern Interior Development Initiative Trust, the value of the scholarship in the Southern Interior region of B.C. is $4000! Science Achievemnet Awards (SAA)

BCIC and the BC Science Teachers' Association recognize outstanding performance in science courses among high school students in B.C. Criteria. The student must have taken a minimum of four courses in science in grades eleven and twelve. These courses will be chosen from Biology 11, Chemistry 11, Earth Science11, Physics 11,  Biology 12, Chemistry 12, Geology 12, and Physics 12. Proficiency in English 12 must be at a C+ level or better, as well as the student must be passing all other courses. The school science staff will decide the winner from amongst the students meeting the above criteria, using their discretion where appropriate. The award encourages students to pursue careers in science and technology. The winners will be given medals of recognition. Innovation Exploration (IE)

BCIC's Innovation Exploration (IE) program focuses on ideas, education and career development. Created in 1990, the IE provides BC Regional Science Fair Winners (who represent BC and the Yukon at the Canada-Wide Science Fair and International Fair) the opportunity to explore the many post-secondary and career possibilities available in science and technology. It is a 2-3 day event where students are invited to join BCIC to engage in exciting programs offered by science outreach groups, explore university programs and careers in science, technology, engineering, digital arts+media+design and business, and network with peers and science and technology industry professionals.
