2012 APEGBC Popsicle Bridge Competition a Success!

APEGBC's annual Popsicle Bridge Building Competition is always a hit, and this year was no exception. The contest took place at the Community Science Celebration in Castlegar on April 14th, proudly supported by KAST.

Newalta Aboriginal Environmental Scholarship

Win $2,500 towards your first year in an environment-related  post-secondary program. Provided by ECO Canada, the Newalta Aboriginal Environmental Scholarship will be awarded to three individuals who have shown leadership in their communities in the areas of environmental protection, resource management, or environmental sustainabililty. Application deadline is May 14th, 2012.

SD 20 Math Festival Cancelled

The School District 20 Math Festival, which was to be held May 9th @ RSS in Rossland, has been cancelled.

Kootenay kids and their families turned out in force for the 6th annual regional Community Science Celebration on April 14, 2012 -- the 2000 attendees enjoyed 3 interactive shows by our partner Science World and 26 fun, interactive demonstrations of the science that surrounds us right here in our region thanks to the following dedicated, imaginative, remarkable local organizations

3 Nelson teens win chance to compete at the Canada-wide science fair: PEI May 12-19

It starts with an inquisitive mind that becomes captivated by an interesting question and driven to unravel the mystery. It is not Sherlock Holmes of which we speak, rather a group of 82 young scientists who recently participated in the West Kootenay and Boundary Regional Science Fair.

Congratulations to our amazing youth film fest winners!

The 2012 West Kootenay U19 Film Fest, presented by the Rossland Council for Arts and Cultureand KAST, was held at the Royal Theatre in Trail on April 14th. 26 films were submitted by aspiring filmmakers, over $2000 in cash and prizes was awarded, and over 150 people filled the theatre to take in the artists’ work.

BDC extends 2012 Young Entrepreneur Award deadline to MAY 6 and adds runner-up prize worth $25,000

 
The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) announced that it has extended the deadline to enter the 2012 BDC Young Entrepreneur Award contest and has added a new prize valued at $25,000.
